I’ve always wanted to be a writer – either the academic sort, or the fantasy sort, or both (after all, is there really such a big difference?). But what with one thing and another I haven’t got very far with writing yet, maybe because I find it much easier to draw a picture than to write a thousand words.

The Greedy Crocodile is my needle felting persona. I made the crocodile as my (then) 3 year old daughter was going through a crocodile phase, and we liked him so much we decided to keep him. After a while I decided to name my shop after him.

Like a lot of people, creative or otherwise, I am inspired by my surroundings. I love simple things, like the quizzical tilt of a terrier’s eyebrow, the angle of a crow’s wing-tip feathers as it takes off, or the proportions of a person’s face. And my way of expressing my appreciation is (at the moment) to copy it in wool.

You can see my portfolio here, or on Flickr, Pinterest, or in my Etsy or DaWanda shops. The portfolio inside my head is of course much much greater. I’ve thought out some sculptures in such detail that I’ve almost forgotten that I haven’t made them yet, and because needle felting is fairly time consuming there just aren’t enough hours in the day for me to have made everything! I also spend a lot of time on my bicycle, exploring the beautiful city of Dresden and its environs.

  1. After starting to read this, I went to check if you’d written your Etsy “about” page…cos this is what I’d like to see there! I have a portfolio inside my head too, but I wouldn’t have thought of that way of expressing it.

  2. Thank you Nifty! The ‘about’ things are so tricky. I love reading other people’s, but really struggle to write on myself. I haven’t even got the Etsy about page on my to-do list!! Maybe just cutting and pasting would be an idea…
